Year 6 recently visited the renowned V&A Museum in South Kensington for an engaging workshop on ‘Design Thinking: Iteration and Prototyping.’ The exclusive invitation to this bespoke workshop was part of Ollie’s prize for securing first place in the Year 4 to Year 6 category at the RCA-hosted Young Art Exhibition.
The practical making part of the afternoon followed a fascinating presentation in the Design 1900 – Now Gallery, where we were shown examples of iconic designs, including Philippe Starck’s Alessi lemon squeezer and Javier Mariscal’s dining chair with ears and feet. The boys were suitably inspired and organised themselves efficiently in their teams as they set about coming up with problem solving ideas and prototypes for areas such transportation, clothing, and the supply of healthy food.
The afternoon was a thoroughly rewarding experience for everyone and opened a number of young eyes to the wonders and stunning variety of displays at one of the world’s greatest and oldest museums.
