Fund-raising is an important part of life at the Under School. An outward focus into the community is seen as an important part of developing the whole child. Boys are encouraged to come up with their own fund-raising ideas and present these to the school community. Some of the major fund-raising events each year are –the Christmas Fair, Readathon, Rich Man/Poor Man Lunch and the Summer Fete. Funds are allocated to various charities that hold importance to the boys.
One particular charity that has recently been close to the hearts of pupils is that of Rwanda Aid. During the Summer of 2009 Westminster Under began a partnership with Mwegera School, in the south of Rwanda. Three members of staff visited to assist with teacher training and on their return they shared the experience with pupils who were enthused to raise £500 for the charity at the Christmas Fair. In the Summer of 2010 three additional staff will visit the school and continue to raise awareness for our pupils of the challenges facing children in Rwanda.
