Sports and Arts

Sport & Arts are considered an integral part of life at Westminster Under School. We believe that there is enormous educational value to be gained in exploring learning in areas outside the traditional classroom experience.

Games sessions are held twice a week and are coached by well-trained staff, who themselves often play to a very high level for sporting clubs across London. A full programme of inter-school and inter-house activities ensure that all boys have the opportunity to represent the school at their own level. In addition, a PE and Swimming lesson mean that by the time boys leave the Under School they have had the opportunity to learn techniques of a variety of sports. All boys are encouraged to play games in the right spirit, with sportsmanship and endeavour as highly valued as winning the game.

The Under School has long held an outstanding reputation for Music and a range of orchestras, emsembles and individual lessons are available. The many music concerts and tours allow the boys to display their muscial talents to the wider community. Within school hours, the annual music competition gives all boys the opportunity to perform to their peers and earn points for their house.

Creative talents are also developed at the Under School. The stunning Art rooms are light and inviting spaces for the boys to work with a range of materials such as clay, oil, batik and plaster. The many galleries just on our doorstep are used to support the teaching of art techniques and art history.

There are three Drama productions each year, with the junior, middle and senior parts of the school all selecting age appropriate productions that involve a large number of boys. The school is also proud to host a Latin play competition each year.

In this part of our website we hope that you will enjoy a visual taster of the many opportunities for Sport & Arts at the Under School.
