Music

The Director of Music is assisted by two part-time assistants and over twenty visiting music teachers, enabling us to arrange individual tuition on most instruments. Nearly all boys in the school choose to learn at least one instrument and the emphasis is on enjoyment at all levels.

We have a Junior Choir and Orchestra for boys in Years Three - Five and a Senior Choir and Orchestra for boys in Years Six - Eight. Other ensembles include a wind band ('The Pink Panthers'), a jazz ensemble, a brass group, several string quartets, a guitar ensemble and a percussion group.

The Senior Choir, Westminster Boys' Choir, frequently performs at prestigious London venues. They have recently appeared in concert with the English Chamber Orchestra, The City of London Choir, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The London Mozart Players, and they have also performed live on television and radio. Biennial tours have taken the choir to sing throughout Europe, Canada, South Africa, South America, the USA and China. They have twice been finalists in the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year Competition. The Senior Orchestra has also toured abroad during Easter holidays and an annual Summer Music Competition culmintes in a grand End of Year Concert at St John's, Smith Square.
