All candidates for the 8+ entrance tests will sit papers in Mathematics, English and Reasoning.
Mathematics
Candidates for the 8+ test in arithmetic should have completed the programme of study contained within the National Curriculum at Key Stage One and the beginning of Stage 2. Candidates should know their multiplication tables and have had experience of problem-solving involving money, for example.
English
The 8+ English test contains spelling exercises, a short comprehension and some composition. Candidates will be expected to write with accuracy and sophistication.
Reasoning
The Reasoning test at all levels is a mixture of elements – verbal reasoning, shapes, sequences of numbers and codes. There are many reasoning books available from good book shops.
