The boys have one timetabled Drama lesson a week from Year 5 to Year 8. They will do work in pairs and larger groups and, during their time at school, they will cover such topics as mime, masks, role-play and improvisation. In Year 6, the Young Shakespeare Company comes into school to give a workshop and theatre visits are arranged at various times during the year. The senior boys were thrilled by the Old Vic’s production of “Inherit the Wind” in December 2009.
There are at least three Drama productions each year, with the junior play being performed just before Christmas and two other productions for the boys in the middle and senior parts of the school taking place at other times during the year. We are also very proud of our tradition of hosting a Latin play competition each year.
We have many talented actors in the school, but boys take equal pleasure from helping backstage and are encouraged to be scene painters, programme designers and lighting or sound engineers.
Recent Westminster Under School productions include :
- Middle School Play : “Trouble in Troy” by Ash (November 2009)
- Junior Play : “Wind in the Willows” adapted by Kingsbury and Sleep (December 2009)
- Senior School Play : “The Government Inspector” by Gogol (March 2010)
- Middle School Play: "HMS Pinafore" by Gilbert & Sullivan (November 2010)
